Psystar releases Mac Clones with Blu-Ray Drives

Psystar continues to be a thorn in Apple’s side, and yesterday took a step further with that by announcing models of their “Hackintosh” machines with built-in Blu-ray drives, and NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT GPU.

 

The company continues to poke at Apple through its cage as they take the extra effort to slam Steve for his “bag of hurt” comment about adding Blu-ray drives into Macs.

Apple, Psystar strike deal to avoid trial in Open Computer tussle

Both seeking to avoid the hassles of a full-fledged trial, Apple and unofficial Mac producer Psystar have entered the Alternative Dispute Resolution process to keep their costs to a minimum and the results of their conflict out of the public eye.

 

First found by The Mac Observer and elaborated upon by CNET, the agreement shifts the two parties’ dispute of Psystar’s claimed right to sell Mac OS X systems from a decision through a traditional court case to a mediated, non-binding settlement discussion that sees their individual arguments judged on statements and legal grounds; once the mediator makes a decision, it’s up to Apple and Psystar to use that information to negotiate a deal.

Psystar plans to countersue Apple - but they’re still not going to win

Psystar, the Mac-clone manufacturer that is currently have their pants sued off by Apple is planning a countersuit according to online reports. The company is claiming that Apple’s software license is a violation of anti-trust laws. The company further claims that Apple inflates the prices for its hardware and the EULA unfairly prevents other companies from competing with Alternative systems.

 

This case is extremely important to the technology industry, and one that Apple desperately needs to win. Not only with this affect Apple, it will affect all software and hardware companies from this point forward.

Mac clone maker Psystar: We’re still in business

The Mac clone maker that has been sued by Apple Inc. thought it necessary last week to quell speculation that it is no longer shipping systems. The company also announced that it has started shipping recovery discs to customers by request to help them reinstall Apple’s Mac OS X 10.5 operating system.

 

Psystar Corp., which began selling its Open Computer and OpenPro Computer clones in April, was hit with an Apple lawsuit about seven weeks ago that accused the company of multiple copyright and trademark infringement, breach of contract and unfair competition violations.
